A native of Terrell, North Carolina, Mrs. Johnston holds a Bachelor of Music Degree with a concentration in vocal and choral music from Appalachian State University. Mrs. Johnston studied voice with Joann Vogan of Mooresville, Mary Gayle Greene of Appalachian State, and Jane Dillard of Charlotte. As a dramatic mezzo-soprano, Mrs. Johnston has been a featured soloist for the Hickory Choral Society, the NC Music Club Society’s annual conference, sacred works, and various recitals throughout the area. Several solo works that she has performed have been Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, “Habanera,” from Bizet’s Carmen, “Bereite Dich Zion” from Bach’s Oratorio Weinacht’s Oratorium, as well as many other arias and classical art songs.
Mrs. Johnston has been teaching music since 2009. She has served as choir director in the public schools, as well as Chancel Choir director in area churches. Currently, she provides private lessons in voice and piano out of her home.
